Swedish Massage

This is the most common type of massage.  It is also known as Massage Therapy.  Massage therapists use smooth strokes, kneading , and circular movemnets on superficial layers of muscles using massage lotion or oils.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to stress-related conditions or conditions with an emotional component.  The massage therapsist can select oils that are relaxing, energizing, stress-reducing, balancing, etc.

Hot Stone Massage

Heated , smooth stones are placed on certain points of the body to warm and loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers in the body.  Hot stone massage is good for people who have muscle tension but prefer lighter massage.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.  The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques acrross the grain of the muscle.  Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetative strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury.  Temporary soreness may be experienced after a deep tissue massage, lasting one or two days at most.

Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy massage also called prenatal massage is becoming increasingly popular with expectant mothers.  Massage therapists who are certified in pregnancy massage know the proper way to position and support the woman's body during the massage and how to modify techniques.  Pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, reduce anxiety and depression.  The massage is customized to a woman's individual needs.

Trigger Point Massage

A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body, also known as "knots".  Trigger points have two phases, active and latent.  The active, painful phase of the trigger point is the one which produces the unrelenting, debilitating pain symptoms and which motivates people to seek relief.  The latent can lie quietly in muscles, sometimes for years and unless you press on the trigger point and feel the tenderness, you probably don't know they are there and are very common.  Trigger point massage is specifically designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release.
